Meet the Shelter Kids at Ferret Services of Freedom

SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS:

The ferrets below have special needs.  Since their chances of being adopted are pretty slim for one reason or another, they could use special sponsors while they are here.

Kali::   Kali is about 6 years old. She is an albino that arrived at the shelter in pretty bad shape.  She was found in a bar parking lot in the winter with a broken pelvis. She has recovered very well, and can move pretty fast. However, she will not be able to maneuver steps.  According to some of our readers, Kali means the goddess of abused women, which certainly is fitting. 11/25/06 -- Kali decided to leave us today.  She was fine yesterday -- and gone today.   We will miss you, Kali!
Daryl:   We had a hard time telling these two boys apart, so we named them Daryl & Daryl.  Unfortunately White Daryl died in August of an antibiotic reaction that developed into an immune problem.  We have Red Daryl now and he's getting on in years.  He's pretty much blind and rather deaf. His nose doesn't even work well anymore.  He's a sweet boy, and is on ferretonin and soup.
Darla:   Darla is a dark sable female. Darla is approximately 5 years old.  She has the beginning signs of adrenal disease.  She's rather cautious of people -- seems that she has been abused in a prior home.  Darla nips and so must be adopted to an experienced ferret owner who can deal with her unpredictable moods.  She'll probably stay here for the rest of her days.
Gizzie: is about 5 years old and is a tiny albino girl that loves to be underfoot. She's always curious about what you are doing, because, you know, she might miss a treat or something.  She is very energetic and bouncy and can nip when she's excited.  This picture does not do her justice.  Giz and Nelson came in together and will not be separated.
Nelson: is about 5 years old and is a long thin albino boy.  He is very quiet and can be easily scared by loud noises.  However, when he's dancing and playing, he's a joy to behold.  He leaps and bounds in long strides across a room when he dances.  He must stay with his sister Gizzie. This picture does not do Nelson justice.  But you can get an idea of his intense stare as he awaits the doling out of treats, specifically yogis!
Pepsi:   Pepsi is a petite MF sable female approximately 5 years old.  Litter box trained.  Arrived in December 2002.  Her brother died of lymphoma in May 2005. Pepsi is timid and  nervous.  She barbers the end of her tail and her flanks, and, if given the opportunity -- will nip. Must go to an experienced ferret owner that will give her the time and attention she desperately needs.

ADOPTABLE

KIDS:

The shelter kids below are presently awaiting new forever homes.  Our process includes a preliminary screening application, two visits and a contract for adoption.  For more information, please contact us.

Pickle:   Pickle didn't get along with her ferret sister, so she came to live at the shelter.  However, she gets along with everyone here. She is really sweet, but definitely timid of any sudden movements or loud noises. Does not bite, gets along splendidly with other ferrets, and uses the litterbox.  What a catch!
Snowy and Zack:   Princess, Snowy and Zack came in together. Princess and Zack are about 5 years old now and Snowy is 4.  Snowy and Zack DO NOT get along with other ferrets, so would do best in a home that can either accommodate separate groups or as the only ferrets. They are loners due to not getting a lot of social interaction, so when they are out they are not seen much.  They eat, sleep poop and generally are never underfoot.  Garrison Keillor would call them Lutheran bachelor ferrets from Lake Woebegone.
Princess (Pea):   Princess is an adorable light sable girl. Very friendly, but won't hold still for a photo.  I had to bribe her with a cup of tea which she did NOT drink.  Arrived with Snowy and Zack, and we'd like to see them adopted together as a threesome.  Pea will curl up anywhere for her nap, even if it's in the middle of the floor. She is not afraid of or bothered by anything.  Very friendly and cute as a button. This picture does not do her justice!

ADOPTED

 KIDS!

The kids below are our most recently adopted ferrets that found their new forever homes.  We wish them the best with their new owners!

Henry:  This fellow was a stray, found last summer at a local campground.  He is on ferretonin.  A very loving, sweet ferret, gets along with other ferrets and cats. He's rather portly, as he likes to eat. A snuggle bunny, Henry was adopted to Jan, a great ferret mom, and now lives in northern Maine.  We think he's pretty lucky.   ADOPTED!
Benson:   Benson was found in Berlin this summer as a stray.  A very sweet boy, but definitely an escape artist! Benson was recently adopted to his new mom, Heather, and he is now a Canadian citizen!  Keep an eye on him, Heather!  He and Howard join their brother Ceihligh in Nova Scotia.    ADOPTED!

Howard:   Howard was found in Gorham this summer as a stray.  Howard is a deaf panda silver boy, probably about 2 years old.  100% litter box trained, and very friendly, but extremely vocal due to his deafness.  Howard and Benson were recently adopted and became Canadian citizens!  ADOPTED!
Wesley:   Wesley is a gorgeous boy, very sweet and friendly.  He is a silver mitt with a crooked bottom tooth that sticks out over his lower lip.  Wesley is probably about 5 years old.  He has handsome white mitts and bib and an adorable black nose.  He's a bit thin, and we'd like to see him fatten up.  Wesley recently found his new home with Gary and Lisa. Wesley has a new brother named Shaggy and they get along splendidly!  ADOPTED!
Bartles & James:   Bartles and James are approximately 1 year old.  They are very friendly ferrets, very energetic, and it's very hard to get their picture!  Bartles is pretty accurate with the litterbox, while James is working on learning Litterbox 101.  Cute as can be, and it's loads of fun to watch the two of them wrestle and chase and play! They are now adding a little excitement to Abby's home.  They join Abby and her ferret, who I am sure is enjoying getting into trouble with these two hellions!  ADOPTED!
Chip: Chip is between 2 and 3 years old.  He came to us as a stray, found at a local campground.  Gets along with other ferrets very well, but can be timid at first.  Gorgeous coat, 100% litter box trained. Notice he stands in the food bowl to eat.  Likes to spill water bowl and drink it off the floor.  Chip and Ralph found their new forever home with the very lucky Skarritt family and their ferret Jelly.   ADOPTED!
Ralph:   Ralph's previous owner committed suicide and Ralph came to live with us. He was covered in fleas and dirty.  Ralph, while deaf, has a seventh sense about cameras. He is next to impossible to capture on film of any kind.  He's super energetic and playful, never holding still.  He's probably around 4 years old.  Ralph is just a sweet ferret, and after totally capturing our hearts, he and Chip were recently adopted to an awesome family, where he runs the house and keeps everyone entertained with his funny antics.  He joins Chip, Jelly and the Skarritt family!  ADOPTED!
Moose & Smokey:  Moose & Smokey are around 2 years old. Moose is a big silver male, who is not deaf.  In fact, he loves those rattle eggs. He has his own and gives it a shake and then stashes it.  However, he HATES cats!  To him, cats are mean evil beings that must be overtaken and put in their place.  Our 22 lb. Maine Coon cat has learned to avoid Moose at all cost.

Smokey is a light sable, without any of the funny characteristics of Moose.  He's very playful and friendly, even to the dreaded cat.  They must be adopted together.  Current on vaccinations. ADOPTED!

Cassie:   Cassie has white feet, knees and bib.  She's a sweet little girl of approximately 1 and a half years old.  Cassie recently found her new forever home and is loved dearly by her new dad, Mike, and ferret sister, Sadie Mae.  She has the run of the house and is one very lucky ferret kid!  ADOPTED!
Niko:   Niko is a love. He is a huge albino boy, about 4 years old.  He is gentle and sweet and loves other ferrets. Niko and Zoe were adopted into a new home where they are well loved and taken care of by mom Pam.  ADOPTED!
Zoe:   Zoe is a three year old silver girl who is just spastic with her feet.  She's very funny and expressive, and just as sweet as can be.  IShe gets along with other ferrets and loves people, shuffling her front feet around when she is excited.  Zoe and Niko were adopted by mom Pam, and at last report are running the household and doing great in their new forever home!  ADOPTED!
Joey::   Joey was a stray that came in during the month of September 2003.  Joey is a sweetie.  Recently he found his new forever home with shelter friend and board member Ron.  Joey joins his three ferret sisters and has run of the house. What a lucky guy Joey turned out to be! (and Ron, too!)  ADOPTED!
